For the remaining 3-4 people that still read this blog, I've got some big news. Some time in the near future, I'm going to have a crossword puzzle published in the New York Times.
I'm not exactly sure when it will be published but I do know it will run on some Monday. Monday is the easiest day of the week difficulty-wise, so even if you're not a regular solver, you'll have a fighting chance to finish the puzzle. If you're a frequent solver, you'll find this to be a fairly standard Monday puzzle.
A common misconception is that Will Shortz, the editor, creates the puzzles. The reality is he receives about 100 puzzles a week from people. He just picks the ones he likes the best and edits some of the clues. I've an avid solver, so I thought I'd try my hand at creating some. I submitted a couple that were pretty decent, and low and behold, one was accepted.
Although many programs exist to aid construction, I created this one by hand. I don't want to give away any secrets about the contents of the puzzle for those that are anxiously waiting to solve, so you'll just have to be patient.
I'm getting paid $200 for my troubles........so I'm pretty much set to retire.
I'll send around an email they day before it lands.
Good luck and God speed.
